hello blog!

well, with the move and everything else that has been new, i haven't been here in a while. in fact, i haven't had much time for the internet and so there hasn't been much to share. i try to keep this as less of a 'journal' and more of a 'weblog' so here are some of my recent consumerist obsessions (some of them obviously over-the-top):

oh, and lots and lots of toys for my new puppy honey

i've been pretty busy unpacking and getting things i need for the house... it's been several months and i still have boxes to unpack (oops!)

in the last few months, i've discovered...

llamas are beautiful
the beach is fun even when it's cold
i can probably handle going back to school
that i never realize how long my hair really is until i cut it all off
buying your first house is a lot of work but extremely rewarding (see how long my hair was!?!)

i have really really great people in my life

i've been too busy lately and not in the good way. hopefully things will be back to normal now and i can stop neglecting the things i love. i've been doing almost nothing else but working lately... i did manage to see a real live snail on my porch on saturday after the rain. and my sister showed me these cute little shorts called green porno. here's one:

it seems that i've moved on from some of the things that were holding me back before only to inherit a new set of goals. (i'm trying to stay more positive and call them goals rather than obstacles). I found a great quote on notes to self that is helping me understand some of the mistakes i've been making.

"People who live in the present often wind up exploiting the present to an extent that it starts removing the possibility of having a future."

the house i lived in when i was a kid had a small porch that my mom decorated with impatients. at night there used to be a lot of slugs around. i was always scared of them and even more scared that i would accidentally step on one. i've never seen a slug in texas but i might be able to enjoy it if i did. this one looks pretty cute.

it was my birthday last week, and after i got over my usual "i'm getting old" pity party, i managed to have a nice time and enjoy some time with my family. maybe we can go rollerskating next year.

my sister made me a lemon tart, and it was delicious. we tried to put 28 candles on it, but the package of candles only had 24, meh. here's a picture of the lemon tart... it was delicious... i love it when my sister bakes things for me.

i did make out with some nice presents, including the silverwear i've wanted for a while, a great wine rack... and the DINOSAUR COMICS BOOK!

In other matters, things are a bit messy these days but i'm trying to do my best and stay strong. i've given in to some of my previous weaknesses, but for now i will let myself be inspired by small victories. i need to work on my emotional strength and courage, so here goes for now.

i'm not sure how it happened, but over the past few weeks i've let things slip and slip and pretty much crash. unfortunately this story ends with a pile of dirty dishes, a messy house, no groceries and me watching bad television in tights with pajama shorts over them. this is my attempt to call myself out and whip myself back into shape.

i went to the texas state fair twice this year - once for a group outing with my co-workers and again with neil and his co-workers. i haven't been to the fair since high school, and it was really fun to see all the weird fried food options. i don't know if these are new, but i certainly don't remember them being there before.

anyway, here is a sampling of what i saw: fried bacon, fried marshmallows, fried snickers, fried cheesecake, fried ice cream, fried peanut butter & jelly & banana sandwich, fried coke, fried cookie dough, fried moonpies, and fried green tomatoes to name a few.

the fried coke was a complete mystery to me and i was slightly dissapointed that it was only fried batter in some coke with whipped cream on top. dennis ordered one - here's a picture...

3. no exceptions - do not give in to temptation on any relapses

i've made some effort lately to get some nagging tasks out of the way and it's resulted in a few big purchases in the last few weeks... a bike and some furniture to organize some of the clutter in my house. so, i went to ikea and found the new trollsta line! i really wanted the yellow, but i don't think it would work with any of the other things i own. here's the adorable side table, which i was tempted by but have no room for, so it had to stay at the store. i ended up getting the cabinet and it provided lots of fun for the cats while i was assembling it.

Cleaning out clutter has definitely helped my motivation levels - I feel like i've been in transition lately - it's been hard to find inspiration and make things, but i'm getting back into the swing of it. found this beautiful origami crane on etsy, thought you might like it too.
